“A Year from Now You May Wish You Had Started Today”

This quote, attributed to author Karen Lamb, might inspire you to get going on that project you’ve been putting off for “someday.” “A year from now you may wish you had started today” simply says: The time is now.

It’s easy to delay working on our goals when the day-to-day stuff takes up so much of our time. But as The Happiness Project author Gretchen Rubin says, “The days are long, but the years are short.” Just a simple reminder not to let the years fly by without meaning or enjoying them as much as you can.

The Importance of Starting Today in Achieving Your Goals

You’ll wish you’d started today a year from now. This is a phrase I’ve heard many times in my life, and it always strikes a chord with me. It serves as a reminder to stop procrastinating and to get started on my goals as soon as possible.

From personal experience, I can attest to the truth of this statement. I’ve put off starting a project or making a change in my life numerous times, only to later regret not starting sooner.

For instance, there was a time when I had wanted to start a new workout routine for months. I kept telling myself that I’d start the following week or that I’d wait until I had more time.

But as the weeks turned into months, I realized how much time I had wasted procrastinating. A year later, I wished I had started my workout routine as soon as I had thought about it.

Similarly, I once had a business idea that I had been thinking about for a while. I kept telling myself that I’d start working on it when the time was right, but before I knew it, a year had passed with no action.

It was discouraging to realize that all of that time had been wasted and that my idea had become obsolete.

These experiences have taught me that the time to begin working toward your objectives is now. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and put things off until later but later may never come.

It is critical to take action and make progress toward your objectives, even if it is in small steps.

Another thing I’ve learned is that it’s okay to change your goals or make mistakes along the way. The important thing is to get started and keep going. Starting is the most difficult part; once you get started, it will be much easier to keep going.

Finally, the phrase “A year from now, you’ll wish you had started today” serves as a powerful reminder to take action and not let procrastination hold you back. It’s easy to make excuses and put things off, but keep in mind that time is valuable and that it’s never too early to start working toward your goals.

I encourage you to begin today rather than tomorrow because you’ll be glad you did a year from now.
